James Barr: As a partner in KPMG’s Risk Consulting practice, specializing in Internal Audit, Risk and Compliance Services (IARCS) group, James has over 20 years of professional service experience. He focuses on providing risk-based business advisory and assurance services to the public sector, publicly-traded companies and private organizations. James is one of KPMG in Canada’s most experienced internal auditors and risk managers, leading many ongoing internal audit co-sources and outsources, and has helped dozens of organizations to design, implement and improve their Enterprise Risk Management programs. He has intimate knowledge of the IIA Standards, and the IIA’s Quality Assessment Manual methodology. James’ experience includes delivering governance reviews, internal controls advisory projects, business process reviews, vendor/tendering reviews, and many special assurance engagements. He has spent time in industry as an internal audit manager for a fortune 100 multinational company in New York. James also gives back to the profession, and has served on Council for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Saskatchewan and on the Board of the Saskatchewan chapter of the IIA for 10 years (he is a two-time past chapter president).
Conor Chell: Conor is the Head of MLT Aikins’ ESG practice group, which is a collaborative, cross-functional and multi-disciplinary team of sustainability professionals with extensive experience in the development and implementation of ESG programs, strategies and risk management. Prior to joining MLT Aikins, Conor spent several years as an environmental and regulatory lawyer at a national law firm. More recently, he spent over a decade with Suncor Energy in various senior sustainability roles which involved reporting on environmental and sustainability matters to Suncor’s Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability Subcommittee of the Board of Directors. Conor holds a Global Competent Boards Designation (GCB.D) in ESG, a Certificate in Sustainable Finance and ESG from UC Berkeley School of Law and has been named a Top 40 Lawyer in Canada under the age of 40 by Lexis/Nexis. Conor has been named a Canadian Environmental Thought Leader by Mondaq, speaks frequently across North America on ESG topics, and has been featured in Canadian Lawyer, the Daily Oil Bulletin, Investment Executive, Advisor’s Edge and Lexis/Nexis.
